Collection: Miranda Beshara
Miranda Beshara is an Egyptian children’s author and translator based in France.
She worked for many years in managing cultural programs and community development projects inside and outside of Egypt with local and international institutions, in addition to working in the fields of translation and editing in Arabic, English and French for children and adults. Miranda is one of the founding members of the Hadi Badi initiative, which aims to bring young readers closer to books through engaging reading experiences. She also teaches Arabic to heritage students with Kalamna School.
Miranda holds a BA in Economics from the American University in Cairo, and an MA in Development and International Relations from the University of Pittsburgh, USA. She participated in the Children's Literature summer program at Antwerp University in Belgium and has recently completed a two-year diploma with the École du Livre Jeunesse in Montreuil, France.
Her first children’s book, “Teta and Babcia – Kitchen Tales from Egypt, Poland, and Syria” was illustrated by Heba Khalifa and published by Dar Al Balsam in 2019. The book was nominated by the Egyptian Board for Children’s Books to represent Egypt in the 2022 IBBY Honor List in the writing category. In 2022, she wrote her second book, a graphic novel for young adults entitled “Jamila”, illustrated by Khaled Jarada and published by the Palestine Writing Workshop. She recently translated from French to Arabic, a junior novel "Le goût de la tomate" with the bilingual imprint Sindbad Jeunesse by French publisher Actes Sud.
Miranda believes that stories have a magical power, especially those that spark imagination, stimulate thought, and stem from questions or personal experiences.
